Maybe you’re a PhD student working on your first conference paper or in the middle of writing your dissertation …

… or a lecturer developing a fellowship proposal …

… or an established academic putting together a grant application for a new project.

Wherever you are on your academic journey, I can guarantee you have a lot on your plate.

Indeed, it may seem that you spend more time juggling other responsibilities than pressing ahead with your most important work. From departmental meetings and admin to public engagement activities and teaching, it can feel like there is never enough time in the day to finish everything to the high quality you know you’re capable of. Finding the right balance can sometimes be overwhelming.

If this sounds familiar, you’ve come to the right place.

Providing a fresh pair of eyes and a helping hand to students and academics is the reason I started Blue Eagle Academic Services, using my experience in higher education—as a proofreader and copy editor for an academic journal, as a researcher, and as a research council portfolio manager—to develop several strands of support:

Encouraging clear written communication is at the heart of Blue Eagle, and workshops seek to establish good writing habits from the very start of a student’s academic career as well as help those who are new to the EPSRC funding process get started on the right foot.

Feedback on writing samples allows for problem areas to be identified and focused on for improvement in future documents. Sessions can be conducted remotely or in person.

Writing underpins everything in academia, from PhD dissertations to the latest journal submission. Having written work proofread by a professional helps to avoid errors that may undermine credibility and ensures that ideas are presented in the best light.
