I have always had an eye for detail and have been known to proofread menus at restaurants.

I put this ability to good use while completing my PhD, serving for several years as copy editor and proofreader on the Annual of the British School at Athens, an academic journal. This involved not only rounding up stray commas and misplaced apostrophes, but also ensuring the house style was adhered to and that the articles flowed smoothly from the introduction to the bibliography.

This led to providing proofreading services to undergraduate and graduate students from around the world, helping them to submit perfectly polished prose (and I’ve even dabbled a bit in poetry!). As an American who has lived in the UK for over a decade, I can focus on either editing in American or British English–just let me know your preference.

I have taken the experience I’ve gained during nearly two decades of working in academia to develop the Academic Writing Toolkit, which identifies the most common errors and helps students overcome them.

Unlike agencies, I can provide one-to-one assistance and I enjoy working with clients to help them communicate with clarity and confidence.

Beyond Blue Eagle Academic Services, I write the MissElaineous Blog (Travel & Nature & History & Tea) and run the community organisation Off the Ground. If you have any questions about my freelance writing or environmental advocacy, please get in touch.
