EPSRC GLOSSARY

CURRENT VERSION: May 2021

If you were to hang around at the office of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), you would hear portfolio managers (PMs) and members of the delivery support team (DST) asking each other if the post-panel checks were done so that a proposal could proceed to authorisation. Oh, and was someone available to push the button on Siebel?

Or maybe you’ve been told that you could follow the progress of your grant through its activities on Je-S. Or perhaps your grant was deferred after panel and put in the grey area?

Every field develops its own jargon and terminology that becomes second nature to those working in the discipline … and utterly baffling to those on the outside! The research councils in general, and EPSRC in particular, are no exception to this. To further complicate matters, there is an inordinate fondness for acronyms within the entire civil service. When all of this is combined, it can sometimes feel like you need an interpreter to provide a translation.

Which brings us to this digital download. It provides an overview of over 50 common terms that are used at EPSRC and, where possible, points you to where you can get more information about them.
